Porkfolio - A cool gift for the kid with everything!

I grabbed Porkfolio, a piggy bank for techies and one of many cool gifts from Best Buy as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias. #OneBuyForAll

Do you have someone on your list that's just impossible to buy for?  I do.  And it's all my fault.  Because Kayla is a child who doesn't lack much.  Call it my job, call it the joy of being an only child, call it spoiled. This issue is one that keeps me up at night because I don't ever want her to be one of those kids.  Which is precisely why when I heard about Porkfolio I ran to Best Buy to snag a gift that goes beyond a gift.  Perfect for a child who has everything and needs to learn the value of a dollar.

Last Minute Christmas Gifts for Dogs

I bought some last minute Christmas gifts for my dogs and found some really cute things in the Walgreens PetShoppe as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias #HappyAllTheWay

Normally, I'm SUPER on top of my holiday gifting game.  By the time that Thanksgiving rolls around I'm ready to wrap and feel all self satisfied while watching news reports from the insanity that is the mall parking lot.  This year however, I suddenly found myself in the midst of the Christmas scramble.  Which is why I had a facepalm moment when I nearly forgot about gifts for for our furry dynamic duo.

Healthy Reindeer Holiday Treats with Halos

I made these healthy holiday reindeer treats for kids as a fun way to get kids to eat fruit instead of junk at a holiday party as part of a sponsored post for Halos. #HalosFun

I'm not sure about you, but growing up one of my favorite things about this time of year was that my mom would buy crates of mandarins or oranges and let my sisters and I decorate them by making patterns with cloves.  It was all very Martha.  The bummer was that while they smelled good they just became decorations that fell into the "hands off" category.  Which is precisely why when I saw the stacks and stacks of crates of Halos (wait - what's a Halo?) in my local grocery store recently I immediately had a plan.

Travel In Style with Very Portable Technology

I searched for a cute very portable Bluetooth speaker like the Carbon Pocket Speaker as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias and their advertiser. #PocketBoom

At one point, travel was my life.  So much so that I could tell you where within several airports to get a manicure, the best cup of coffee (without the Starbucks airport line) and plug in all of your gadgets without a crowd of looming plug-hunters giving you the stink eye.  For obvious reasons I've cut back in the last few years but this last month, wow.  I've made 4 trips in 3 weeks.  And when your life pretty much consists of packing and unpacking you need to know what to pack to travel smart and say see you later to the suckers stuck at baggage claim while you're already hopping in a cab.

Hidden Veggie Lasagna Recipe For Picky Eaters

Need a lasagna recipe for picky eaters?  Try my hidden veggie lasagna!  This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Barilla, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #JoytotheTable  http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.

Did I tell you about the time that I married a meat-a-saurus and gave birth to a picky eater?  No?  Well I'll spare you the details on all of that but the result is that I'm constantly on the hunt for how to get more lean protein and vegetables into our meals.  Meals that don't result in a battle of wills and leave me feeling like I've aged exponentially over dinner.  Therefore I present Hidden Veggie Lasagna.

Tiggly - The Best iPad App Toy for Preschoolers & Toddlers

Tiggly sent us a set of their Tiggly Shapes to try out and I think they are the best iPad toy for preschoolers and toddlers.

At this point I think it's silly to try to deny the way things are moving and say you refuse to let your child engage with electronics.  Stick them in front of the stupid box while cartoons play endlessly?  Obviously not.  But once you get over the playground mom stigma of preschool iPad possession (which I'm still working on) you realize there are lots of truly educational apps out there.  Where things are lacking are those add on toys for kids.  I'm sorry, but the reality is that most of them stink.  Which is why I was surprised and delighted when we got our hands on Tiggly.

How To Shop For A Tablet Without Feeling Grinchy!

Want to know the best way to shop for a tablet during the holidays?  Here are some tips!  I checked out the Dell Venue Pro 8 this week as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias® #IntelTablets #cbias

The holiday season is upon us.  Which means it's incredibly easy to get your Grinch on.  No, I don't mean going around town taking the last can of Hoo Hash.  I mean that point where your blood boils and you start to hate gift giving while you're waiting for the really un-helpful "salesperson" to help you pick out your techie gifts. You know, the one who keeps answering the phone instead of helping you?  Can you tell I've experienced this lately?  Yes, I've gone Grinch, but I've got a few tips to help you avoid turning green this holiday season.

DIY Hot Chocolate Ornaments with M&M's

I created these Hot Chocolate M&M Ornaments which are an easy Christmas gift or easy stocking stuffer on as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias® #FueledbyMM

With all of the hype about Xbox One and the craze to pre-order it, my neighbor and I wound up on a mission to track one down for her son in time for Christmas.  I could go on and on for hours about just how lucky Craig and I are to have such incredible neighbors, but I'll spare you.  Instead I'll let you in on a sweet Xbox One deal and a really cute idea you can use as a stocking stuffer or a little add on to a gift card.  Call me crazy ( I know my husband would!) but I think there is something boring and awkward about just handing someone who isn't your mail carrier an envelope and nothing else as a gift.

Family Trip to the Fullerton Arboretum

Over the weekend we had a lot of time on our hands in Orange County, so a trip to the pretty darn close Fullerton Arboretum seemed like a great idea.  We've been there a few times before and I kick myself for taking so long to introduce Kayla to it in the first place.  If you find yourself in this area on a nice day (which is sort of normal) I highly recommend a visit.  It's CRAZY kid-friendly and packed with nooks, trees and bridges to explore plus lots of animals and butterflies to spot.

DIY Baker’s Twine Christmas Ornaments

I love the aisles filled with glittering ornaments this time of year just as much as any other holiday freak out there.  But sometimes you just want something simple and homemade.  And wouldn’t it be cool if you could actually make it yourself instead of paying Target or Anthropologie to do it for you?  These baker’s twine ornaments really are easy to make.  So much so that you can have a grade school child help or make their own set.  And let’s be honest, these are easier on the eye than just about anything they’ll come home from school with.

Hello Kitty Let's Play - Clothes That Do More

I recently discovered the joy of the Hello Kitty Let's Play line of interactive clothes and Kayla is over the moon! This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and KuKee, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #helllokittyletsplay  http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

Hello Kitty is all the rage in our home these days.  I'm not quite sure when it happened, but the furry cuteness of my own childhood suddenly managed to make a place for herself amongst the omnipresent Disney Princesses.  Impressive!  Over the last few months I have sprinkled a few Hello Kitty items into Kayla's world - Band-Aids, hair bows and even a shirt or two.  But trust me when I say you won't find any other Hello Kitty gear quite like the Hello Kitty Let's Play line at Macy's.

Crayon Apron - Preschool Holiday Gift from Chasing Fireflies

Chasing Fireflies sent me this adorable crayon apron as a perfect holiday gift for a preschool age child who loves art so I'm sharing it with you!

Do you know know a child who lives to draw?  I certainly do!  In fact every morning I fight the battle of pulling Kayla away from her crayons, paper, scissors and tape to try to get her out the door to school.    So a few weeks back when I was ogling browsing the holiday gift selection over at Chasing Fireflies I got freakishly excited when I spotted this crayon apron.

If you’re anything like me then you have a sneaking suspicion that you’re not quite getting enough exercise.  How much is enough exercise these days?  Seriously I don’t even know. Easy Rice Krispie Treat Turkey - Thanksgiving Dessert for Kids

Need a great Thanksgiving desert for kids?  Try this Rice Krispie treat turkey.   My family has about fifty wacky traditions but this is definitely the one that has become pretty famous.  "Hey, can you bring that turkey again this year?" is a pretty common phrase to hear during November.  My mother started making this silly desert when I was in grade school and kids go absolutely nuts over it.  Adults tend to ditch their very refined pies and start sneaking pieces.  It's a good thing.

Easy Loaded Matzoh Ball Soup - Cold Season Ammunition

This week I made this easy loaded matzoh ball soup recipe as a great way to celebrate Hanukkah or fight a cold or flu.  This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Kleenex but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #KleenexTarget  http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

So apparently cold and flu season is in full swing.  I know because my household has already fallen victim to the less severe yet utterly annoying lingering cold.    What is more frustrating that laying down to go to sleep and only being able to breathe out of one nostril?  The only thing I can think of is watching your child struggle with a hopelessly runny nose.  The upside to this time of year is that it calls for a little concoction I call easy loaded matzoh ball soup.

DIY Studded Vegan Leather Jacket - Get the Look for Less!

This week I shopped Sears to pick up some fall fashion and created this DIY studded vegan leather jacket to show you how to get the designer look for less as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias.  #ThisisStyle

My style tends to err on the side of feminine and polished with a few surprises here and there.  Pretty silk tops, fitted pants, statement jewelry and preppy handbags make up the bulk of my wardrobe.  They're timeless, adaptable to most seasons and incredibly easy to dress up or dress down.  Which is why it's funny that as a girl who never says "I have nothing to wear" I recently found myself thinking just that.

Family Staycation at the Hotel Del Coronado

It would be a lie if I said the last few weeks have been easy around here.  I know, it probably seems like I spend most of my time checking out cool toys, going places and creating things.  I do.  But there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes on and I've had to make some big decisions lately.  Stress.  And lack of family time.  So when Craig brought up the idea of heading to the Hotel Del Coronado or "The Del" as most locals call it I required no convincing.  None.

How to Rock Edgy Chic - Without Looking Like a Teenager

It would be hard to ignore or miss the influx of vegan leather, grunge, lace and overall "edgy chic" look that is hitting every store from Neiman Marcus to Target.  This both excites me and makes me cringe because I just know that I'll start seeing women running around town looking like biker chicks gone wrong.  SO, in an effort to make sure I didn't become one of those people who looks like the trend is wearing them instead of the other way around I created a few balanced looks and thought I'd share one of them with you.  More to come!

Zooligans Boots - The Cutest Boots for Kids

My friends over at Zooligans sent me these Zooligans pony boots to test out and I think they are the cutest boots for kids!

Kayla is constantly going through my closet and saying "Mommy, when I'm a grown up can I have this?" To which I give a default answer of yes.  Sure.  At that point it'll be vintage and even more awesome.  Like oooohhh J.Crew.  From 2011.  How cooooool.  Or fierce.  Or fetch.  Or whatever the word is in about 15 years.  It won't matter.  I'll probably be well on my way to a hearing aid at that point.  At least I won't hear her sneaking out?  Anyway...sometimes the tables are turned because I find things for Kayla that are just so darn cute that I am eternally jealous and want them in my size.

Stressed Skin - How to Find a Holiday Win with Dermalogica

Holiday stress is killing my skin so I checked out some solutions and created some DIY beauty product ornaments as part of a sponsored post for Collective Bias and their client.

The holidays are on their way!  If you're in my line of work then they've actually been here for quite some time.  In the blogger world I think it's safe to say that the holidays start in July or August when you work on Halloween and don't stop till you hit the end of December.   When you're inevitably last minute Christmas-ing, traveling and entertaining relatives.  Which is stressful.  So in true blogger fashion I am giving you the advance preview of what stressed, broken out holiday Jillian looks like.  With makeup.

Tired New Parent Gift Basket with Pampers

This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Pampers. #DivasSleep #DDDivas I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine

It was 2009 and I was a walking zombie.  Not the people eating, grey faced, undead kind.  The spitup covered, hair a mess, living on 90 minutes of sleep a night kind of zombie.  You know, the parent of a colic/reflux baby.  The term bundle of joy simply did not apply.  This was the year that I learned the value of sleep.  Ask my husband.

DIY Diaper Sheep - Baby Shower Decor

Diaper cake.  Yawn.  I don't mean to sound rude, but really?  It blows my mind a bit that there are so few real departures from the diaper cake in the world of diaper crafting.  While I was putting together a gift basket for some new parents desperately in need of sleep I had sheep on the brain.  Which is precisely how this DIY diaper sheep was born.

The fastest way to curl your hair - Conair Curl Secret

In just a few days I will be on a plane.  Childless, husband accompanied and off to some very luxurious (and more importantly comped) accommodations in Las Vegas.  It's a trip we make a couple of times a year with varying permutations of friends.  A few weeks back I was looking through photos of trips past and realized one common denominator.  I always have the same hair.  In every single photo.   There are worse possibilities...like mom jeans or wardrobe malfunctions.  However, I just saw long straight dark hair staring back at me time and time again. Boring!

This week I checked out the new LeapReader from LeapFrog.  To facilitate a LeapReader review I received products from LeapFrog to host a LeapReader MommyParty.

This is Kayla's last year before Kindergarten, the true Pre-K year and one thing I have noticed is that kids her age are all over the map as far as where they stand with reading and writing. DIY Painted Step2 Wagon Party Favor Station

I am a Step2 Test Drive Blogger.  I created this DIY Painted Step2 Wagon Party Favor Station as part of a sponsored post for Step2.   It's the perfect solution for what to do with an old wagon or how to upcycle a toy wagon.

If you're in a similar stage of life to the one I've been in, bulky plastic items in your living room are just a fact of life.  I too had visions of a home where only painstakingly chosen pieces of discrete kid decor existed.  Then reality hit.  Do you buy the $200 sleek looking wooden baby bouncer that doesn't do a darn thing other than look pretty?  Or do you buy the one that sings, vibrates and has rainforest creature rattles on it for $60?  Let's be honest.  Is this really a question? You buy whatever makes that baby happy and gives you 3 more minutes to have a prayer at shaved legs. Or breakfast.

Jillian Warner from Mommy Testers

Jillian Warner, Mommy Testers Blog,

Hi, I'm Jillian Warner!  I'll spare you from having to read about me in the third person because, well you know it's me writing this, right?

My blog, Mommy Testers is about neat finds in the baby and kids world, DIY anything-you-can-think-of that seems easy and fun and of course some things that are just for the grown ups like great tech items, neat travel destinations, beauty and fashion finds.  Basically, it's things I happen to think are pretty cool and you might want to know about.  Oh, and I always try to do it in big, beautiful photos because really, isn't that what half of this whole Internet thing is about?

I am a fashion industry veteran who traded the garment district of NYC for coastal San Diego living.  My family consists of my sports loving husband Craig, our daughter Kayla (born 2009) our son Blake (born 2014) and two rescue dogs, Charger and Stella.

I started Mommy Testers as a way to share what I learned as a parent while navigating the world of kid stuff and it evolved into so much more.  These days I still write all of my content and though I don't frequently talk about it on my blog, I also oversee and work with hundreds of well known, quality bloggers across the country by consulting for marketing companies in the influencer space.

If you're a reader, you'll be happy to know that I am about as picky as they come (just ask my family, they'll confirm) and do my best to only show you products I think are awesome.

If you're a brand or a member of the PR world, then I would love for you to know that:
  • I have a passion for creativity and always come up with something interesting.  Please browse around and see how I work with products.
  • In keeping with the above, I don't participate in any kind of copy/paste mass press release stuff.  Yep, it's all written by me, all the time.
  • I do accept samples to share my thoughts with readers on, but it has to be something I really think my readers want to see and I would personally use and love.
  • I keep giveaways to the bare minimum.  My readers are not particularly motivated by free stuff and neither am I.
I have worked with a ton of brands both big and small. What's most important to me is finding a product or cause that fits my site.

My work has been featured on Buzzfeed, Babble, Huffington Post, the searsStyle Blog, Fox5 San Diego, the Wells Fargo blog and many other places around the web as well as in print.  I hold a few ambassadorships with brands I adore and I've found that these long term relationships tend to be great for all parties involved.  If that's something you're looking for I would love to hear from you and of course I adore coming up with creative ways to work together.

Thanks so much and you can reach me anytime at jillian (at) mommytesters (dot) com

Did you see my painted wagon party favor station?  I used an old Step2 wagon we had and turned it into some cute and functional party decor.  Think you might want a wagon of your own?  In this giveaway you get to pick whichever wagon you want from Step2.  This All Around Wagon has served us well for toting Kayla and her stuff around.  We even used in a parade over the summer.  If you're the parent of multiples, I highly recommend the Choo Choo Wagon and YES, you can even pick that one!

Step2 Lil' Chef's Gourmet Kitchen - The Perfect Play Kitchen

As you know, I am a Step2 Test Drive Blogger. I was sent this Step2 Li'l Chef's Gourmet Kitchen (which is a great play kitchen) to review and share my thoughts with you.  No other compensation was provided.

There are so many reasons to have a toy kitchen in your home whether you have a little girl or a little boy.  Imaginary play is not only so important to child development, it's also fun to watch!  In all honesty, I've noticed that our visiting male friends tend to gravitate toward our play kitchen even more than the girls.  I love that the Step2 Lil Chef's Gourment Kitchen is full of features I oohed and aahed about as a parent but doesn't come off as girly...unless you get the pink version.  But then clearly girly is what you're going for!

Get Salon Style Hair with the Conair Infiniti Pro Flat Iron

Want to know how to use the Conair Infiniti Pro flat iron to get straight hair with curled ends?  I received this flat iron at a conference but am under no obligation to share it with you and am certainly not being compensated for this post.  I just want you to look awesome!

So I don't have tons of beauty secrets BUT I will say I have mastered the art of the salon looking blowout using just a flat iron at home.  You know when you see someone's hair and you can just tell they've flat ironed it...and not in a good way?   It's stick straight, looks unnatural and lacks movement.  I know because I had that hair way way back in the day before learning the technique I'm going to show you using the Conair Infiniti Pro flat iron
